Kate Singleton, Personal Trainer

From a very young age I was always active, enjoyed sport and loved being outdoors. If it involved movement, I was into tennis, cricket, tag rugby, climbing trees, gymnastics, ballet, athletics, trampolining, diving…the list goes on. I was never the best at any of them, but that never mattered. I loved the challenge, the excitement, and the simple joy of getting stuck in.

As I entered my teenage years, my relationship with movement changed. Struggles with body image took over, and what once was fun became an obsession. I pushed my body too hard and training excessively while eating too little. What started as a desire for control spiralled into a five-year battle with anorexia. Exercise was no longer a source of joy—it was punishment.

Recovery was a long road, but it taught me one of the most valuable lessons of my life: movement is a privilege, not a punishment. When I finally allowed myself to heal, I rediscovered fitness in a whole new way. Instead of forcing my body to shrink, I focused on what it could do. I fell in love with movement again—not for how it made me look, but for how it made me feel.

At first, I only felt confident doing cardio, so I decided to get a personal trainer to help me with strength training. The experience was disappointing, my trainer seemed disinterested, uninspired. I decided to move on and learn for myself. I studied, watched countless videos, and taught myself everything I could about lifting, movement, and training. The more I learned, the more I realised fitness wasn’t just something I did, it was part of who I was.

When the time came for a career change, the decision was easy. Becoming a personal trainer wasn’t just about doing something I loved, it was about using my experience to help others. I had seen so many people stuck in the same negative cycles I once was, feeling lost, struggling with food and exercise, seeing fitness as a chore rather than a gift.

Now, every day, I do what I love, helping people build strength, confidence, and a positive relationship with fitness. Seeing my clients not only reach but exceed their goals is an absolute privilege. Fitness changed my life, and now, I get to help others change theirs.

You are always capable of more than you think – I would love to help you prove it.
